As part of the Beyond The Spectrum programme, we’re happy to signpost you to organisations, sources of support and websites for Autistic writers. Check out some links to useful websites for Autistic writers and find out more about the organisations behind them.
National Autistic Society
Autism East Midlands
Autism East Midlands provides care, support and educational services to Autistic people and their families within the East Midlands area.
They also provide Autism Social Space, which is free for Autistic adults to join. This provides a safe space to meet like-minded people in person or online through groups, meetings and days out. This group is open to any Autistic adults whether they are diagnosed, self-diagnosed or still waiting for diagnosis.
Autism Berkshire
Autism Berkshire seeks to help and support Autistic people of all ages and their families in Berkshire.
They do this by providing information and advice, running Autism-specific training, raising awareness of Autism in the wider community and by working with local authorities and other organisations to deliver appropriate services. They also run a number of workshops and social activities for Autistic people and their carers.
PAACT
Parents And Autistic Children Together (PAACT) provide support and activities for Autistic children and their families across Lincoln and Gainsborough.
They provide whole family support through a variety of services, including training programmes, conferences, workshops, activities and support groups.
They also have a closed Facebook group for parents to share advice and provide peer support.
Shine Lincolnshire
Shine Lincolnshire are a countywide charity who aim to connect people with the services and support relevant to their own personal situation.
They look to connect people and communities by promoting health, wellbeing, independence and choice.
Their website is full of information and resources regarding support services, peer support, groups and activities across Lincolnshire.
Lincolnshire Virtual Autism Hub
Lincolnshire’s Virtual Autism Hub seeks to provide non-clinical support to autistic adults and parents/ carers of autistic people of all ages, across Lincolnshire. They seek to empower autistic people and work closely with community groups and service providers.
They have Specialist Autism Navigators who can help you with advice, signposting to relevant groups and services, information about autism and diagnostic pathways and practical support such as form filling or helping individuals to attend an initial group meeting.
Autistic Nottingham
Autistic Nottingham is an entirely Autistic-led charity, providing services to Autistic adults without intellectual disabilities. They seek to fill a gap left by Autism services which tend to focus on Autistic people who also have intellectual disabilities.
Their website provides support and information covering a wide range of topics, training courses and both online and in-person support and social groups.
Ambitious About Autism
Ambitious About Autism is a national charity which supports Autistic children and young people across England and Wales.
They work across education, employment, policy & campaigns, training & consultancy, connecting young people and Autism awareness.
Their website also contains a wealth of information and resources around understanding autism.
Autistic Not Weird
Autistic Not Weird is a blog containing insights from Chris Bonnello, an Autistic teacher, author and speaker. He is also one of our Beyond the Spectrum Lead Writers!
There is also a Facebook page of the same name, which regularly posts insights, discussions and advice.
You can also find out more about Underdogs, which is his series of dystopian YA novels featuring a cast of neurodivergent main characters.
En-Fold
En-Fold is a support service for Autistic people and their carers across Northamptonshire. They provide an Autism Support Service, which is 4-6 sessions of support specific to your individual needs.
They also run social groups, support groups and provide Autism training to local organisations.
As well as providing information about their own services, the website also acts as a resource for information, support and services available in Northamptonshire.
Autism Central
Autism Central is aimed at parents and carers of Autistic people of all ages. They aim to make it easier to learn more about Autism and the services that might be available to you.
The website lists resources, events and information on local hubs. You can navigate to your local hub to learn more about support and events available in your area.
I AM
I AM aims to empower the Autistic community across Greater Manchester. They run social activities for Autistic adults and young people aged 10 upwards as well as 1-2-1 support for Autistic individuals.
They also provide support and advice to parents and carers of Autistic people and workplace support for both employers and employees.
